Chapter Leadership: Maine
From Maine Governor - James Powers, MD, FACC:
GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE
It is an honor to serve you as governor of the Maine Chapter of the ACC. As you know, Maine is joined with New Hampshire and Vermont to form the Northern New England Chapter of the ACC (NNE-ACC). This collaboration has proven to be quite successful recently under the excellent leadership of Drs. Diaz (ME), Capodilupo (NH), and Higgins (VT).
As we move forward we remain committed to the practicing cardiologist of the Chapter. The focus of the Chapter will shift toward providing tools for understanding the role of the cardiologist in new payment structures created by health care reform (ACO’s). We also remain engaged with the Maine Health Management Coalition (MD’s, Insurance Co., Purchasers of health care) in developing a robust but fair quality recognition program that will continue to move us all closer to our goal of providing the highest quality care at an appropriate cost (“value”).
Finally, most of us initially discovered the ACC as an excellent source of education and have relied on the ACC to remain current in our field. Nationally, the annual ACC scientific session remains the centerpiece of ACC’s contribution to education. Also keep an eye out for a dynamic new point of care tool currently under development, which will allow us to access and synthesize the entirety of the ACC’s educational resources via a PDA (see President’s page, JACC: Vol 57, No 18, p 1857-578).
Locally, It has been a pleasure to participate in the planning of our NNE-ACC Scientific session over the last 2 years. This annual fall meeting has steadily gained popularity over the last several years. It has certainly served its educational role but has also allowed colleagues from around the Chapter to reconnect. This year’s meeting promises to deliver a high quality educational experience once again.
Hope to see you all in Portsmouth on October 29th!
In health,
James B Powers MD, FACC
